The History Of Pantyhose

Although women from all walks of life wear pantyhose without giving it much thought, most women do not know the history of pantyhose. Interestingly enough, we often go about our daily lives in stocking feet, never asking how this silky and sexy phenomenon began. 

The Beginning
In America, we started the practice of combining panties with sheer nylon hosiery. With rising hemlines, of the 1920s and nylon replacing silk and rayon as stockings in 1940, the foundation was set. By the 1940s and 1950s, play and film producers were sewing the stockings to the briefs of actresses and dancers. In 1953 the first commercial use for the pantyhose was undertaken by Allen Grant. However, their use was mainly for women in show business at this time. 
The Expansion
Ernest G. Rice created his own design, by the 1960s they became more cost efficient and more comfortable. With the introduction of the mini-skirt, by 1970 the popularity of the pantyhose had surpassed that of stockings. By the 1980s pantyhose had become a common wardrobe must have for most women. In the 2000s, pantyhose, although different than their original form, increased in styles, shapes and colors. Shapewear, colored tights, hosiery with patterns, footless, and other special designs expanded the demand for pantyhose.
The Build
1. Made from strong elastic for top of the waist.

2. Panty area was thicker, covering hips and buttocks.

3. The crotch is made of cotton.

4. The legs are made of thin fabric, usually nylon.

5. The toes of the pantyhose are often reinforced.

6. They can also be made from silk, cotton or wool.

7. Available in variations of standard sheer, very sheer,opaque, and semi-opaque.

8. Some men wear pantyhose for therapeutic reasons.

9. Control top pantyhose are for slimming effects.

10. Spandex gives elasticity.
