6 Tips for Maintaining and Caring for Your New Hosiery

Hosiery is a wardrobe staple that we use for work and play looks. However, since they are used so often, they are put through the wringer and come out not looking their best.

For this reason, you want to stay updated on the best care and maintenance tips to keep your high-quality hosiery looking its best for longer.

1. Avoid Snags and Runs

If you always put runs and snags in your pantyhose when putting them on, try using a pair of cotton gloves. This is especially helpful when you have long nails or acrylic nails. Wearing gloves when putting on your hosiery is an easy way to keep them safe and prevent your long nails from snagging on the fabric.

2. Roll and Pull

Next, roll your pantyhose and other hosiery up and pull them up slowly. While this is automatic for many of us, it is something to remember and follow through with every time.

3. Buy the Right Size

Care and maintenance really starts with your first purchase. Make sure you buy the right size, so there is less tugging when you put your hosiery on daily. If you are between sizes, it is best to go up one size instead of a smaller one. This reduces the chances of runs in the hosiery and provides more stretch.

4. Clear Nail Polish

Always have clear nail polish on hand when you wear hosiery. If you do happen to get a small hole or tear in an inconspicuous spot, you can use clear nail polish around the hole to keep it from getting any worse. This is a good maintenance tip for when you are out and don’t have access to a fresh pair of hosiery.

5. Wash Before Use

Wash your hosiery before wearing it for the first time. Place all your hosiery into a lingerie bag and use a mild detergent in cold water on the gentle cycle. Fabric softener is also essential. The fabric softener can help preserve the shape of your hosiery.

6. Avoid the Dryer

Once washed, never place your hosiery in the dryer. Doing so shortens the lifespan of your garments and affects how they fit. Once clean, always hang your hosiery items to dry.
