Tights, Stockings, And Pantyhose: What’s The Difference?

Tights, Stockings, And Pantyhose: What’s The Difference? At Hosieree.com, we offer every type of hosiery under the sun, but one question we’re asked by many women is “What’s the difference?” We want to make the world of hosiery a little less mysterious, so all women can enjoy great hose that they look marvelous in. There are occasions and outfits where one of the three types are most appropriate, or sexiest, and knowing the differences between the three can help you to choose the perfect one for each situation.

First, let’s start with pantyhose. Pantyhose is typically heralded as the most elegant or sophisticated of the bunch, and it’s certainly the most classic. These are considered the thinnest of the three types of hosiery, and the most transparent, and they give the legs a smooth natural look. With nude pantyhose, imperfections of the leg are perfectly concealed, and pantyhose tend to go with just about any type of formal attire. You can find pantyhose in a myriad of different colors, and each will over the same sheer and finished look perfect for incorporating into your office attire.

Next, we have tights, and tights are really where any woman can have some fun. Tights are far less transparent than pantyhose, and have more of an opaque look due to their thicker fabric. You can consider a pair of tights as more of an accessory piece, rather than simply an undergarment when compared to pantyhose, and mixing and matching colors to coordinate with your outfit can provide for you a modern fashionable appeal. While these are certainly more opaque than panty hose, they shouldn’t be mistaken for leggings, as they do have a sheer quality that will cause you to need to wear them under a skirt or other attire.

Last, but certainly not least, we have stockings. Stockings are the most common type of hosiery mistaken for panty hose or leggings, but stockings require a set of suspenders or a garter belt to hold them into place. Unlike panty hose or tights, stockings are made up of two pieces of hosiery that go just up to the thigh, and another piece will be required to hold them in place. This type of hosiery is typically the most common with lingerie or to give a sexy appeal, and they can be found in colors that range from nude, to black, to a number of funky and fun fashionable shades.

  1. Well Written. While I have several pairs of tights, most of my hosiery inventory comprises of sheer pantyhose in the 10-20 denier range. For me sheer pantyhose is more comfortable than tights because of smaller denier yarn and at times I do not even notice that I am wearing hosiery at all.

  2. Helpful info. Lucky me I discovered your site accidentally, and
I’m shocked why this accident did not happened in advance!
    I bookmarked it.
